Summer Drink Drive 2009
Summer 2009 Drink Drive
Drivers in Norfolk are being reminded not to put lives at risk this summer by drinking and driving.
That’s the message from the Think! Norfolk partnership today (Monday, June 1) as it launches its drink drive campaign.
The start of the campaign coincides with the National Association of Chief Police Officers’ drink drive campaign that runs from June 1-30, and Think! Norfolk will join forces with pubs across Norfolk in a bid to get across its message.
Promotional beer mats and posters warning drivers about the dangers of drink driving will also be available at numerous venues in the county throughout the summer. The campaign will also be supported by hard-hitting advertisements in the local press, and images are available on request.
Officers from Norfolk Constabulary will also be stopping motorists throughout the county.
During last year’s campaign, 69 drivers in Norfolk were arrested on suspicion of either failing a breath test or refusing to take one.
Anybody convicted of drink driving will have a criminal record and could receive a prison sentence of up to 10 years, could be banned from driving, fined heavily and also possibly lose their job and their home.
The main aims of the Think! Norfolk campaign are:
- To reduce the number of road traffic collisions involving death and personal injury
- To deter drivers who might be tempted to drink and drive
- To remind drivers that those taking either illegal or prescribed drugs must not drive if the drug results in sensory impairments.
