Hugger Campaign
Hugger is the latest member of Norfolk's motorcycling family and the face of a new road safety initiative aimed at saving lives on Norfolk's roads.
Hugger, who is named after a rear mudguard, has been launched on the back of alarming statistics that show motorcyclists make up only 1% of traffic on Norfolk's roads, yet represent a staggering 26% of people killed or seriously injured.
In Norfolk, the number of people killed or seriously injured in motorcycle and moped accidents is falling at a much lower rate than number of people killed or injured figures.
Statistics from 2006 to 2008 show that the number of accidents involving motorcycles, mopeds and scooters are evenly split between built-up areas and non-built areas.
The campaign aims to increase motorcycle safety in Norfolk, and ultimately reduce the number of deaths and serious injuries among motorcyclists.
To begin with, its message will be directed at motorists as more motorcyclists take to Norfolk's roads during the summer months.
Later in the campaign, there will be specific messages for motorcyclists encouraging them to consider additional training to improve their skills and ultimately, their experience on the roads.
"Every time I see Think Bike and Hugger 'are you looking out for me', it really hits the spot"
Terry Ambridge, Norfolk resident.
