Training
Training is absolutely central to reducing casualties. In almost 70% of rural crashes the motorcyclist is identified to have been blameworthy. In order to deal with this problem a realistic assessment of your own ability is vital. We can all improve our riding but assessment and training may be needed rather than the trial and error approach often employed. There are several options available for riders that wish to improve their riding. The Hugger Challenge

Hugger is the latest member of Norfolk's motorcycling family and the face of a new road safety initiative aiming at saving lives on Norfolk's roads.
Safe Rider
Norfolk Constabulary’s Safe Rider scheme will be in its 11th season during 2009. It has been a partnership between Norfolk County Council and Norfolk Constabulary for the last two years but is still run as a Police Course, by Police motorcyclists and from Norfolk Constabulary Operations & Communications Centre Wymondham.
It runs under the national ‘Bikesafe’ banner but has retained its local branding as it pre dated the creation of Bikesafe.
The national Bikesafe strap-line is “Bridging the gap” and is intended as an introduction to defensive riding practices. It also deals with the correct lines to take and safe overtaking techniques. It consists of two evenings in the classroom at Wymondham followed by a 5 hour 3:1 road session with a Police rider. Drink/food stops are accommodated on the road sesson. At this time the cost is subsidised at £30 which is non refundable if cancelled within two weeks of the course dates.
Visit the Safe Rider page within Norfolk Constabulary’s website to enquire more about the scheme.

Rider Experience
Norfolk County Council realised that there were people riding bikes that did not necessarily want to attend a course but just wished to have their riding checked to see if they needed any further training.
The Rider Experience was created to satisfy this demand and is linked in with the DSA Enhanced Rider Certificate that can gain you insurance discounts from numerous companies that have signed up to the scheme.
For £43 you can receive a 90 minute assessment and any additional training that may be required will be offered at £29 per hour.

Advanced Rider Groups
Norfolk County Council and Norfolk Constabulary have close links with local advanced rider organisations and encourage people to take their advanced test. Many also decide to become social members of these groups as well. Again, insurance discounts can be obtained from certain insurance companies.
Private Training Companies
Should you decide to seek training from a private training company it is strongly recommended that you go to those that are on the DSA Register of Post -Test Motorcycle Trainers (RPMT) as they will have been certified by the DSA as capable of delivering this training.
